Metaphor space is a nursery

Protects weak newborn plants and encourages growth

It can be planted directly in an outside field without a nursery and still grow.

Cold winds can cause them to wither and die.

It is the harvested crop that is valued and traded in the marketplace, not the nursery.

In other words, nurseries are not essential and not marketable.

So the value is often overlooked.
